Carola Schouten (born 1977) grew up in Giessen (North Brabant) and has lived in Rotterdam-Delfshaven since 1995.
She studied Business Administration at Erasmus University. After her studies, she worked as a policy officer at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. In 2006, Schouten became a policy officer for the ChristenUnie parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.
Five years later, in 2011, she became a Member of Parliament, and in 2017, she was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in the Rutte III cabinet. In the final Rutte cabinet (2022–2024), she served as Minister for Poverty Policy, Participation and Pensions, as well as Deputy Prime Minister.
