Alexander Kalloniatis completed his PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics in 1992 at the University of Adelaide, serving as a Research Fellow in Germany, the United States and Australia, before joining the Defence Science & Technology Organisation in 2005.

Since then he has undertaken a range of applied and theoretical studies in C2, including support to the establishment of Australia’s Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) from the Wilson Review of 2005, which proposed its initial structure, to the present day, as well as studies in mathematical and human sciences modelling of C2. Between 2014 and 2017 he undertook a Chief Defence Scientist (CDS) Fellowship, which further advanced his research, and underpins much of the effort to modernise HQJOC.

In 2021 he was awarded the Minister for Defence Science & Industry award for Defence Science excellence. He is presently an acting group leader of the ‘Integrated C2 Enhancement’ team in DSTG.
