Speaker Bio
Yori Kamphuis (born 1985) is studying Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Twente when, in 2007, disaster struck. During a study trip to Kenya, the promising student is involved in a serious car accident and ends up in the hospital with, among other things, a cerebral hemorrhage. The result: permanent brain damage. He has to relearn things like walking, talking, reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Despite the doctors' bleak prognosis (studying was out of the question), Yori recovers through a combination of a positive attitude, hard work, and faith that things will work out. He is pursuing a master's degree in geopolitics and security at the renowned King's College London, is enrolled in the summer program in exponential technologies at Singularity University, and is becoming an Associate of King's College after completing a degree in theology and ethics.
Even outside the classroom, Yori is anything but inactive. He co-founded software companies Coblue and Storro and was named Futurist of the Year in 2013. He's also a member of the Nerd101, a group of the Netherlands' most influential technologists and inventors, and was included in StartupDelta's FutureMaker50, where he previously served as an advisor to chair Neelie Kroes. This diverse background has allowed him to develop a very broad knowledge of Artificial Intelligence over the years.
